The fast answer is...maybe.  If you aren't prepared for a flat tire then yes it can be a giant pain in the butt and can potentially ruin your ride.  On the flip side, if you are prepared then it is nothing more than a few minutes of minor incovenience.

Take a look at the video above as it discusses whether you should consider patching your old tube or replacing it altogether.  Many riders carry a spare tube or two in addition to the normal compliment of repair patches.

If you're a veteran roadie then changing a tire is a piece of cake for you but if you are a beginning rider then you may not have experienced your first flat and changing a tire might be a bit of a mystery.

No matter what you're experience is with changing a bicycle tire, watch along with this video and the best way to make sure a flat tire isn't a ride ending disaster is to be prepared for it.  You prepare by making sure you have the right tools, tubes or repair patches with you when you ride.

It's also a great idea to PRACTICE changing the tire at home.  Practice before you need  it and changing a bicycle tire while on the trail won't seem like such a big deal.
